How does speed dating work?

Our hosts will make you feel welcome and at ease and take you through the whole speed dating process in a way that is fun and engaging.

No, you will not be in the middle of a crowded bar amongst noise and dozens of other people! All of our events are held inside venues that feature private and sectioned off areas.

Our events go for a breezy 2.5 hours in one evening including breaks – but we never, ever rush you.

At Nectar Events, we only want to bring you to venues that you would actually want to go on a date in: Classy but relaxed, spacious but private, cosy, well lit, and of course – a fully stocked bar.

No, we don’t just send you home when the night is over!

We will make you feel welcome and relaxed whether you come alone or by yourself, it’s really just up to you.

If you want to meet someone again and they want to meet you again then we will match your emails so that you can contact each other outside of the event – it’s that simple.

Our classic events are about you meeting real people and spending time away from screens and devices – NOT downloading more apps and setting up more profiles!

Benefits of ‘virtual’ speed dating

Far from it! Virtual speed dating is you being smoothly guided through a series of short dates online, in real time.

No, you do not have to create an account or profile and you do not have to download anything.

Covid lockdowns may appear anytime in 2021, shutting down your social life and love life – but not when you join our virtual events!

Do you prefer to meet people from the comfort of your own home? Do you prefer to meet and ‘break the ice’ with people at your own, private pace? We understand.

Life is busy, we get it.

The event is done on a computer but we treat you like a human being – always. How so? Read the next point.

At the end of each short date you are simply asked ‘is this a match?’ and you simply click ‘yes’ or ‘no’ if you want to match emails with that person – and that’s it.

Ever used Zoom or Skype or Facetime to talk to a real friend in real time? This is the same thing only you are meeting dates.

Why change a classic formula? We’ve simply moved the classic, fun and engaging formula of speed dating to a ‘virtual’ space where you and ten other singles can share ten short dates in one fun evening.

You, (a single person who wants to meet other single people)
Pre-book a ticket online.

Show up dressed up
Arrive at one of our specially selected bar or function centre.

Who’s there?
Generally we cap the events at ten men and ten women. The events are categorised in age groups, say late twenties to mid-thirties, mid thirties to forties etc.

Your host:
Someone with personality! Yet, warm and friendly who will look after you and set the tone for the night, like a proper host does at a dinner party.

Head to the bar:
If you drink alcohol you might like to relax and unwind from the day before the dates begin.

We are about to begin:
Once all of the guests have arrived the host gets everyone seated. If we have twenty guest, ten private tables, one girl and one guy on each table. Your host hands you out a card to keep notes, not scores!

You are now on a date!
Well it’s a fun packed, very short one, usually about eight to ten minutes long. We like to throw in random questions you can ask each other for each date, nobody is getting caught in the trap of having the same conversation over and over again.

We ring the bell:
There is an eight minute warning bell letting you know it’s time to say that hilarious joke or deep thought as the date is up, lets move!

The men all stand and move around the room while the women stay seated (come on guys, you can do the heavy lifting!)

Half-time:
Yes just like the footy we take a half time. Get a drink, powder your nose!

Just like that it’s over
Ten guys and ten girls have had a short date with each other – that’s probably more dates in one night than many people will have in their entire lifetime!

That’s a wrap!
Now, what happens if you decide you want to see someone again during your speed date? Well, just like all dating it’s a two way street, so if you like them and they like you and you both tick ‘yes’ on your card, then your host will match your emails the next morning.

No-one take your fancy?
If you don’t connect with any of your speed dates you simply tick no or leave the space with their name blank, it’s that easy.

What happens next?
The night is over after all the dates and for some, the night is still young – so some people go out, some people hang at the venue afterwards and enjoy a few more drinks, some people go straight home to rest, its really just up to you.
